The
vineyard is more than 15 hectares in a unique piece of land, and the soil presents
an argillaceous-calcareous composition with some tuffaceous veins;
it is rich of water thanks to the presence of rich underground stratums, the land
is particularly suitable to the vine-growing also because of its exposition, from
south east to west.
The
vines are reared with the low arch Guyot system with an average density
of 4300 stumps per hectar. The medium age of our plants is about 20 years,
but some are very young, some are not in production yet; the first harvesting
of a new vineyard is just at its third year and for the complete production, you
have to wait until the fourth or the fifth year. The extension of the
vineyards is variable, from few hundreds of square metres to more than 15000 square
metres. Every vineyard is delimited by a small path that makes the passage from
a plant to another easier. The works related to the rear of the vineyards
are: winter prooning, green prooning (the prooning of the leaves, the pinching
out) polling and summer thinning. All these works are done manually and
need the patience of practised hands, because a great wine is procuced in the
vineyard, thanks to a constant care and respect for the nature. We generally practise
the grassing over and the treatments against parasites in the maximum respect
of the EU rules related to the low environment impact. Finally, the harvest
is the most pleasant moment of the year because it contains all the energies and
the expectations of a year of hard work and sacrifice.
